Alleged drug kingpin and bail breacher Mostafa Baluch has been spotted travelling in a black Range Rover which has since been seized by police.

Baluch allegedly cut his ankle monitor after being granted bail just three days earlier while facing a life sentence on drug importation charges.

It’s now believed he was travelling eastbound on the M4 at Croydon at 2:30am on Tuesday, and police are appealing for further information about the movement of the vehicle with Queensland registration 861CU3.

Criminal Groups Squad commander Detective Superintendent Robert Critchlow told Jim Wilson the men in the recent vision could face charges for perverting the course of justice if they don’t come forward.

A theory that Baluch boarded a private jet at Bankstown airport late last night is “still under consideration”, he said.

“We’re certainly very open-minded.

“Information’s come to us from some sources that Baluch is under enormous pressure … so he’s lying low, he’s keeping his head down, and he’s desperate to flee the jurisdiction.”

While hesitant to comment on the judicial processes that led to Baluch being granted bail in the first place, Detective Critchlow admitted it’s a “waste of resources” for police to be tracking down the alleged fugitive.

“I’ve got a team of the best investigators in the country … they should be doing the next job, which they were on.

“Now I’ve put them aside to work on this case … and the next investigation will suffer.”

Macedone Legal principal Sam Macedone explained to Jim health risks such as COVID and long delays in getting trial dates are factored into bail decisions.

“You can’t predict these sort of things, and magistrates who grant bail are just human beings.”
