One in four Wilcannian adults infected with COVID, sparking plea for more vaccines

The state and federal governments are being criticised for an ineffective vaccine rollout in isolated, and predominantly Indigenous, communities as case numbers grow.

Shadow Indigenous affairs minister and Barton MP Linda Burney told Ray Hadley remote communities in Western NSW “feel quite abandoned”.

Many are so isolated they don’t have access to a GP or pharmacist where vaccines can be dispensed from, she said.

“The [case] numbers are exponentially increasing.

“In Wilcannia, Ray, one out of four adults have the virus, and 40 per cent of all people infected in the western division are children.

“I just think that the NSW government is almost in a parallel universe at the moment.”
