Indigenous communities ‘doing the heavy-lifting’ with exponential vaccine uptake

Article image for Indigenous communities ‘doing the heavy-lifting’ with exponential vaccine uptake

Ray Hadley has revealed the “heavy-lifting” being undertaken by NSW’s Indigenous communities in the race to get the state vaccinated.

Indigenous leader Warren Mundine was heartened to hear the soaring rates of vaccination in rural and regional areas with large Aboriginal populations, like 95 per cent first-dosed Gilgandra, and 91.5 per cent first-dosed Cootamundra-Gundagai.

“You just brought a tear to my eye there,” he told Ray.

“Only a few weeks ago, some of these Aboriginal communities were as little as eight to nine per cent vaccinated.

“I’ve even had people in the Aboriginal community going out there and saying ‘they’re going to try and wipe us out by putting some sort of poison in the vaccination’.

“They’re just morons.”
