Mike Jeffreys

Today’s launch of the federal government’s ‘Safe and responsible AI in Australia consultation’ interim report includes recommendations from AI experts, roundtable consultations, and virtual events across the country.

Mike is joined by Futurologist, Professor Rocky Scopelliti, who is himself quoted in the interim report, the government is poised to craft AI regulations to balance both innovation and risk.

“High-risk AI, like self-driving cars will face stricter controls, while low-risk AI like chatbots will see lighter rules,” says Professor Scopelliti.

“Concerns about bias and AI-generated content misuse have been addressed through proposed measures like bias audits and content labelling, and despite reactions being mixed, Australia's two-tiered approach certainly offers a step forward in managing AI’s potential.”
