Senator James Paterson responds to Sydney’s disruptive pro-Palestine rally

Mike Jeffreys

Luke is joined James Paterson, Liberal Senator for Victoria / Shadow Minister for Home Affairs, following the abhorrent behaviour of Monday evening’s pro-Palestine protesters.

In central Sydney, a rally in support of Palestinians took place following Hamas militants’ attacks in Israel, which resulted in hundreds of casualties, prompting Israeli forces to respond with rocket fire on Gaza.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported at least 687 Palestinian deaths. After speeches at Town Hall, the gathering grew to about 1,000 people at Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House forecourt, where flares were ignited.

The police learned of the rally on Sunday and decided to manage its movement from Sydney Town Hall to the Opera House for public safety since the necessary paperwork wasn’t filed or approved. A man with an Israeli flag was briefly arrested for his safety, and an investigation is ongoing regarding the behavior of the crowd.

Organizers claimed it was a peaceful rally but acknowledged the presence of a “tiny fringe of vile anti-Semitic attendees” who disrupted the event with offensive chants.
