Two police officers severely injured after being struck by van at RBT site
Two NSW Highway Patrol officers have been injured, one critically, after a driver looking at his phone struck the two Senior Constables at a Lumeah RBT site Friday evening.
The driver, 22-year-old Jakob Thorton, already had four license suspensions and was banned in 2016 for mobile phone use while driving.
Senior Constable Jonathan Wright was critically injured when his leg was crushed, resulting in the amputation of his foot and lower leg.
Alan Jones speaks with NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller who is calling for a change of attitudes.
“There was a time when drink driving was socially acceptable, but over time through strong enforcement… you don’t hear people talking about it anymore.
“There is a real cultural issue.
“It’s a life sentence.”
