‘Defiant’ Nathan Cleary under fire for ‘doubling down’ on support for Tyrone May
The culture of the Penrith Panthers is being called into question, after co-captain Nathan Cleary posted on social media in support of sacked teammate Tyrone May.
In the hours following May’s contract termination, Cleary posted a photo of the pair on his Instagram story captioned “My brother no matter what. Got you always”.
Bill Woods argued the post sent the wrong message, “doubling down” on “blind” support for May at the expense of being a good friend.
“By all means keep supporting [your] mate, help him become a better person … but to put that up today just seemed defiant.”
Former Ironwoman and Wide World of Sports co-host Candice Warner also condemned the post.
“I don’t why you can’t just pick up the phone and call him, and why supporting a mate requires a public post – especially one like that.”
