Aussies are choosing de facto over marriage
Mike is joined by Amanda Lambros, relationship counselor and sexologist, to discuss a recent survey that reveals a significant decline in marriages among Australians under 35.
The HILDA survey, tracking 9000 households since 2001, indicates that only 20.5% of women aged 25-29 were married in 2021, down from 35.9% in 2001 while the overall percentage of legally married Australians has dropped by about 6 points over the past two decades.
The survey also highlights the increasing prevalence of de facto partnerships, though these couples are shown to be more prone to separation than their married counterparts.
